Baby Duck Feet Slippers

Baby Duck Feet Slippers

OMG!!!!!! I am in love with these! My friend Katie just had a baby on my birthday, I am super happy for her!!!  During her pregnancy she showed me a picture of some duck feet slippers that she wanted. They were adorable and I knew that they would make a great baby gift.   So I did what I always do- headed to ravelry to find a pattern. I checked out a few patterns but this one was the one I decided on Duck Feet by Margaret Zellner.  While I was on vacation out west this summer I purchased some Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino wool in yellow. If you ever are in Kelowna British Columbia I highly recommend the Art of Yarn store. It was stocked full with various luscious yarns to choose from. I definitely did not leave empty handed and my only worry  was fitting it all into my carry on luggage.

Tips

For a novice knitter like me I found most of the pattern easy to follow. I needed to google two things; how to do short rows (continential style because I am a leftie) and how to do applied i-cord. Click here for the youtube video I watched to figure out how to do i-cord.  I picked up 15 stitches following where Margaret indicated to do so in her photos but then I followed the method in the video to perform the applied i-cord.  The i-cord was the most frustrating part at first,  I tried following directions from a book, and then a PDF with no luck.  Next I went to youtube and as soon as I watched the video I got it.  I found it easiest to pick up all the 15 stitches at once on a DPN instead of picking up one at a time as I went. This is for sure going in my vault of baby gift ideas. I am really pleased with how they turned out. If you have someone special in your life that is having a baby soon consider making them an adorable pair of baby duck feet slippers.
